How opening a coffeehouse in the Swedish countryside changed my life… For the better!

Live in a country you l̶i̶k̶e̶ love!

In 2011, at the grand age of 28, I left the capital of gastronomy Lyon in France to move to Stockholm in Sweden.

I was done with my studies (I studied music during 8 years in Aix-en-Provence, Nancy and Lyon), and had always dreamed of living in Sweden since I visited for the first time when I was 15 (in 1998). I remember promising myself that one day I would live in this beautiful country.

And that’s what I did…

And it felt so easy… Just because I wanted it so much.

After two beautiful years in Stockholm, probably among the best years of my life, playing music, doing sport, and hanging out with friends almost every week, I decided to move on and start a new life and doing the job of my dreams.

Find a job you l̶i̶k̶e̶ love!

In 2013, at the age of 30, I released this dream by buying a coffee place in the Swedish countryside without any experience, money or even speaking Swedish at that time (well not very much!)

I only had one drive: passion for good food and pure determination to make it work.

Opening a coffeehouse, running my own business that supports a lifestyle of true freedom and satisfaction were dreams in my head for many years. I love cafes but to work in one was tiring however very fulfilling.

Anyway…

That’s how I ended up in… Skåne-Tranås!

Make it g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ fantastic!

More than five years later, looking back at the past, I realize how much I loved that journey despite of the hard work.

When the place first opened, we were working hard every day…

I made some great friends in some lovely customers and I felt good about having created a space that people love to come and enjoy the atmosphere I created.

It was (and still is) fantastic to try out new things and succeed! To bring something new to the table that my customers will love.

But it was also ok to make mistakes! Not in the moment of course, but when the anger and disappointment were over it made me learn from them, to make it better next time or try something new and see how that works out!

And do you know what? I remember making many mistakes and I’m happy thinking about them today…

Since I had no experience. It took me many years to truly learn and master my craft. I have been learning classical recipes, I also created new recipes with both French and Swedish inspiration, playing with ingredients and trying out new methods.

Today I’m proud to see the result of the hard work and I feel truly satisfied with our products. Our customers base is growing each year and I feel so much more accomplished after more than 5 years of driving my coffee place.

These five last years have been simply amazing. To open my own coffee house was the best thing I ever did!

I learned so much, how to manage a team, how to manage big bookings such as bus tours, even weddings and many other things…

In between all of this I better not forget that I became the father of two beautiful children.

That is the reason I can proudly say: since I opened my coffeehouse and had my children I became a man!
