How opening a coffeehouse in the Swedish countryside changed my life… For the best!

Live in a country you l̶i̶k̶e̶ love!

In 2011, at the age of 28, I left the capital of gastronomy Lyon in France to move to Stockholm in Sweden.

I was done with my studies (I studied music during 8 years in Aix-en-Provence, Nancy and Lyon), and I’ve always wanted to live in Sweden since I visited it for the first time when I was 15 (in 1998). I remember promising myself that one day I would live in that beautiful country.

And that’s what I did…

And it felt so easy… Just because I wanted it so much.

After two beautiful years in Stockholm, probably among the best years of my life, playing music, doing sport, and hanging out with friends almost every week, I decided to move on and start a new life: running the job of my dream.

Find a job you l̶i̶k̶e̶ love!

That’s why in 2013, at the age of 30, I bought a coffee place in the Swedish countryside without any experience, money or even speaking Swedish at that time (or just a little…).

I only had one drive: passion for good food!

And it felt so easy…

Just because I wanted it so much.

Opening a coffeehouse and running my own business that supports a lifestyle of true freedom and satisfaction were in my head for many years. I love cafes and to be in one all the time was tiring but very fulfilling.

Anyway…

That’s how I ended up in… Skåne-Tranås!

Make it g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ fantastic!

More than five years later, looking (already) back at the past, I realize how much I loved that journey despite of the hard work.

I made great friends with some very lovely customers and I felt good about having created a space that people love to live in.

When the place first opened, we were working hard every day…

It was (and is still!) fantastic to try out new things and succeed! To bring something new and that my customers love it!

But it was also ok to completely fail! Not in the moment of course, but when the anger and disappointment were over…

To understand why, to make it better or try something new and see that it’s working out!

And do you know what? I remember many mistakes I did and I’m happy thinking about them today…

Since I had no experience in that kind of job, it took me many years to truly learn and master my work, and the mistakes I did helped me so much to become better! I have been learning classical recipes and then I created new recipes with both french and swedish inspiration, playing with ingredients and trying out new methods.

Today I’m proud to see the result of the hard work and I feel truly satisfied with our products. Our customers circle grow bigger for each year and I feel so much more accomplished after more than 5 years of driving my coffee place.

These five last years were simply amazing. To open my own coffee house was the best thing I ever did!

I learned so much about that work: how to manage a team, how to manage a big booking (bus, wedding,..) and many other things…

And I also got 2 children. I’m not sure I would have become a father if I wasn’t driving my own business.

That is the reason I can proudly say: since I opened my coffeehouse I became a man!
